Beechwood Counselling
You don’t need to have it all figured out. Just a willingness to begin.
Life can feel overwhelming at times – confusing, heavy, or just stuck. You may not know exactly what’s wrong, only that something doesn’t feel right. I offer a calm, supportive space to explore those feelings together – somewhere you can speak freely, be heard without judgment, and begin to make sense of what’s going on.
About Me
I'm Shelley, a qualified humanistic integrative counsellor and a registered member of the BACP. I began training in 2017, completing my Level 4 Diploma in Counselling at Varndean College, and I'm now continuing my development through training in Transactional Analysis psychotherapy at the Connexus Institute. Before counselling, I spent years as a teacher, working closely with older teenagers through some of the most formative years of their lives. I was often the teacher students trusted with what they couldn't say to anyone else. That same quality is at the heart of how I work with clients now.I work with care, curiosity and respect, tailoring sessions to your individual needs rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach. My role is to be alongside you – not to offer quick fixes, but to help bring awareness to patterns, thoughts or feelings that may have been sitting just outside of conscious reach. Sometimes, it's in noticing these subtle threads that change begins.

How I Work
Working integratively means I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches depending on what you bring. I may use reflection, gentle challenge, creative techniques or body-based awareness – always with your consent and always at your pace.At the heart of my work is the belief that real change starts when we feel genuinely seen and accepted. My aim is to create a space where you feel safe enough to explore, unravel, and reconnect – with yourself and with life.
Who I Work With
People come to counselling for many different reasons – anxiety, whether that shows up as a general sense of unease or as stress around specific pressures like exams or work; low mood; self-doubt; grief; trauma; or simply a sense of feeling lost, disconnected, or stuck in a pattern you can't quite shift. Some want to explore the impact of past experiences, such as school or family life. Others are navigating relationship struggles, identity questions, or big life transitions.I bring both professional training and personal understanding to a couple of areas in particular: Boarding School Syndrome, and grief – including supporting people whose partner or loved one is living with a terminal illness, both in the difficult time before the loss and in the grief that follows. If either of these resonates, it's something I have real depth in.I also understand, both personally and professionally, how complex and isolating it can be for parents supporting a child through a significant change or transition in who they are – a time that can feel very unsupported. If that's where you are, you don't need to explain everything before we begin.Whatever brings you here, we’ll go at a pace that feels right for you.
